TALKING ABOUT HECTOR

monash 3.JPEG

Last month I had the delightful job of talking about Hector Crawford to a lovely attentive crowd at the Monash Library Wheelers Hill. Not only were there many questions about the shows, but there were many anecdotes shared by people who had personal stories to tell about the affect Crawford programs had on their lives.

So many wonderful recollections particularly from people who learnt about Australia from the programs after migrating here from all over the globe. Hector and Dorothy would have been thrilled to hear how their programs changed peoples lives for the better.

It was also my great pleasure to talk to Sue Coad who had worked for Crawfords about her direct experiences of how the shows were put together.

Thank you Sue and all the people who contributed their own Crawford stories and my special thanks to Nanette San Martin (who had her own Crawford memories) and Jason Brack who made the whole night a delightful experience.

OUT AND ABOUT WITH THE PIANO WOMAN

Last week I was thrilled to get a chance to talk to the members of the Kyabram First Thursday Book Club and what a group of power women they are!

I am always thrilled to be able to chat about my books and the characters I have created with such a group of booklovers.

Thanks to Joanie for organising the night and to the club for the warm welcome.

I even featured in the Kyabram Free Press.

I hope that I can come back and talk about Making Up Amanda very soon.

LIGHTS EVERLASTING

Subject.png

In late May my friend and colleague Dr Bronwyn Hughes launched her incredible book Lights Everlasting.

The book is a lasting and beautiful tribute to those artisans who created stained glass windows to commemorate lives lost in wars from the Boer War to Vietnam.

There is something so poignant about these tributes to fallen service men and women and the book is also a homage to the families and communities that raised the funds and commissioned the artists to create such lasting memorials.

Sadly some of the windows featured in Bronwyn's book are no longer in existence, the buildings having been lost to "progress", but Bronwyn's book will stand testament to the artists, the communities and the fallen.

I recommend you seek it out to see history presented and preserved for future generations.

A Bolt from the Blue.

HECTOR nominated for an International Award.

I was absolutely shocked and delighted to receive an email telling that HECTOR had been nominated for the  2016 Theatre Library Association Book Awards, presented annually to "recognize performing arts scholarship published during the previous calendar year that demonstrates exemplary use and interpretation of library and archival collections".

HECTOR was nominated for the 2016 Richard Wall Memorial Award honoring books on film and broadcasting.

What an amazing honour! It is such a thrill for me that Hector and Dorothy's story is attracting international attention.

The Crawford Years - Studio 10

I spent a fun morning with the lovely team at Studio 10 talking about Hector, Dorothy and Crawford Productions. It was wonderful to have Paula Duncan, one of Hector's favourite TV Detectives on the panel and even Denise's turn in The Bluestone Boys made it on air! Thanks to everyone at Studio 10.
